On 26 May 1969, the command module of Apollo 10 reached 39,897 km/h (24,790.8 mph) on its return journey to Earth. It carried a three-man crew of American astronauts: Col Thomas Stafford, Cdr Eugene Cernan, and Cdr John Young. That’s the fastest any human beings have ever traveled.
