Felix Baumgartner became the first human to break the sound barrier without any form of engine power when freefalling from the edge of space to Earth. He reached a maximum vertical speed of 1,357.6 km/h (843.6 mph) before he deployed his parachute. The typical terminal velocity for a skydiver is about 240 km/h (150 mph).
