Blue has more complex and contradictory meanings than any other color. In English it can represent sadness, but in German it means to be drunk, and then there’s blue-blooded and blue sky thinking? It used to be the color for girls but now blue is for boys! Interestingly, several languages, including Japanese, use the same word to describe blue and green.

Blue lies between violet and green on the spectrum of visible light and was a latecomer among colors used in art and decoration, as well as language and literature, which was probably due to the difficulty long ago of making good blue dyes and pigments. Now though, over half of the flags in the world contain blue, and it is the most commonly used color in corporate identities. If the color blue were removed from the world, specifically the sea and sky, what color would fill the void?
